Definition Of Self-Introduction

Self-Introduction atau yang paling sering dikenal Introducing myself (memperkenalkan diri sendiri) adalah usaha menyampaikan data diri sendiri kepada orang lain.

Data yang dimaksud adalah hal-hal yang umum, seperti nama, alamat, sekolah, dan lain-lain.

Sementara info pribadi yang dirasa privacy, dapat diberitahukan kepada teman yang dirasa sudah cukup akrab.

Materi Suggestion And Offer

A. Suggestion

Pertolongan.  Yah tepatnya demikian. Materi kita kali ini yaitu materi yang berhubungan dengan memberikan pertolongan kepada orang lain berupa saran atau nasehat dan tawaran.

Berbicara mengenai saran tidaklah mudah, masalahnya, terkadang niat orang untuk membantu yang tujuannya menolong kadang ditanggapi berbeda oleh lawan bicara. Hal ini bisa dimaklumi, karena mungkin pada saat memberikan saran kita menggunakan kalimat perintah, menggunakan kata harus atau tidak menggunakan kata-kata atau ungkapan yang tepat dalam memberikan saran, tidak melihat kondisi, yang menyebabkan si lawan bicara merasa digurui, atau mingkin karena ada faktor tertentu.

Belajar memberikan saran sangatlah penting, yang tujuanya untuk kebaikan orang lain. Yah, tidak bisa disepelekan bahwa ada juga orang yang suka julit yang terkadang memberikan saran yang tidak baik atau dengan tujuan mempermalukan, atau agar dianggap lebih pintar,  namun apapun itu belajar untuk menahan diri dan berkarakter baik sangatlah perlu untuk ditingkatkan.

Demikian pula dalam meminta saran, meminta saran berarti meminta bantuan berupa tanggapan atau ide. Hal ini agak sedikit sensitif, karena kita membutuhkan kalimat atau ungkapan yang tepat agar kiranya saran yang diberikan bisa dipertimbangkan, walaupun tidak sesuai dengan kehendak, namun belajar memberikan dan meminta saran yang baik juga sangat penting.

Pada saat bekerja atau minimal saat bersosialisasi setiap hari, akan ada waktunya setiap orang akan memberikan meminta dan menolak saran, nah, disinilah kemampuan dibutuhkan, jika tidak bisa memberikan, meminta dan menolak saran dengan BAIK, maka akan memberikan kesan yang buruk bagi orang lain.

Hal penting juga yang perlu ditanamkan adalah belajar menolak saran, karena beberapa faktor. Penggunaan kata-kata atau ungkapan menolak pada awal kalimat yang baik perlu dipelajari, agar tidak menimbulkan kesan tidak baik.

  • Terkadang orang menggunakan kata ‘should’ (seharusnya). Contoh

– You should take a rest

– You should study hard.

Saran seperti ini tidak salah, namun perlu diperhatikan kepada siapa kita memberikan saran, jika orang yang baru ditemui atau orang yang tidak begitu akrab, sebaiknya kata ini dihindari.

Kecuali :

Untuk hal yang baik atau hal yang benar, contoh :

  • He should go to bed earlier (He usually goes to bed late)
  • It’s a good book. You should read it.
  • What should I do with my pain? You should see the doctor very soon.

Untuk hal tidak baik atau hal yang tidak benar, contoh :

  • You shouln’t smoke at all
  • You shouldn’t go to bed late
  • Dalam memberikan saran perlu menghindari kalimat perintah (Imperative Sentences), sebaiknya menambahkan beberapa ungkapan (Expressions) seperti beberapa contoh diatas, agar membentuk kalimat saran.
  • V1 (Verb) kata kerja bentuk pertama. V ing kata kerja ditambah ing. Bagian ini ada hubungannya dengan materi Contoh : how about going, what about studying dan lain-lain.

Definition of Simple Routine Task

Simple Routine Task is an activity or piece of work which we have to do regulary.

Simple Routine Task adalah kegiatan atau pekerjaan yang dilakukan secara rutin atau berulang-ulang kali secara terus menerus (regulary). Materi ini sama halnya dengan materi daily activity, atau kegiatan sehari-hari. Daily activity is an activity done by person everyday or regularly

Kegiatan rutin bisa diartikan sebagai hal yang dilakukan secara teratur, karna sudah terprogram atau terjadwalkan, bahkan bisa juga dikatakan kebiasaan adat, atau kegiatan yang hampir tidak bisa dihentikan, jika dihentikan maka akan ada konsekuensinya.

Yakoba’s Daily Routine Before Pandemi Covid-19

Hi! My name is Yakoba. I’m fourteen years old, I’m Papuan. I am a student at SMK 3 Teknologi dan Rekayasa Jayapura. I live with my family in Jayapura, in Papua Province.

My day usually starts quite early. I always get up at 05.30. When I get up, I go to take a bath first.  After that I comb my hair and get dressed. I usually wear casual clothes, mainly jeans, shorts, T-shirts and trainers.I always have breakfast with my mom and my little sister, Penina. My dad seldom has breakfast with us, because he lives and works in Merauke. I usually have  boil banana or cassava and a cup of tea. Before I go to school, I help my mother to wash the dishes.

I usually walk to school because I don’t live very far. Classes start at 07.30. I like English best but I’m also good in construction subjects. I have  breaks at 11.30 and I have my lunch at 12.00. I sometimes eat rice, vegetables and fish or tempe. School finishes at 3.30. Sometimes, I come back home by taxi or motorcycles paid by my friends. I take a bath and play with my sister for a while and then I help my mother to clean the house. I do my homework and read some books. Once a week, I have a table tennis practice. I love doing sports.

Before dinner, I sometimes meet my friends or watch a TV show. I seldom play android game.  We have dinner at 06.30 and I often set the table. After dinner, I help my sister to do homework. At 9.30 I go to the bathroom to wash my face, hands and feet, brush my teeth and put on my nightdress. Before I go to sleep, I surf the Internet for a while or listen to music to make me feel relaxed.

That’s all my activity starting from waking up till going to bed. Thank you.

Dengan perkembangan teknologi, segala hal bisa dilakukan dengan cepat dan mudah. Termasuk dengan mencari alamat yang belum diketahui. Contoh : jika ada orang yang tidak tau alamat yang ingin mereka tuju, atau bahkan tersesat, mereka cendrung menggunakan peta lokasi (Google Maps). Dimana hal ini berbanding terbalik sebelum aplikasi canggih itu hadir. Dulu, orang akan memilih untuk bertanya.

Ada istilah ‘malu bertanya sesat di jalan’ hehehehe, yap,  bertanya adalah keputusan  yang tepat.

Namun kira-kira untuk menanyakan arah (asking for direction) dan menunjukan arah (giving direction) dalam bahasa inggris apa, yah?, yuk simak penjelasannya  di video berikut ini :

Asking for Direction

Asking direction adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menanyakan arah.

Expressing atau ungkapan yang sering digunakan adalah :

Formal :

  • Excuse me, Could you tell me where the shopping center here, please?
  • I’m lost. Would you like to explain the location of SMK exhibition, please?
  • Could you tell me please, I am looking for the  hospital.
  • Sorry, I am not from around here, Could you tell me the way to Horizon Hotel, please?
  • Excuse me madam/sir, I seemed to be lost. What is the best way to get to west Koya, please?

Informal :

  • How do I get to the cafeteria?
  • Is there a drugstore near here?
  • Can you show me where Susi live?
  • May you show me where the traditional market is?

Giving Direction

Giving direction adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memberikan arah.

Expressing atau ungkapan yang sering digunakan adalah :

  •  It’s the way
  • Turn left/ turn right …..
  • Go straight ahead for about two miles
  • Keep going straight ahead, you will find it on the left
  • Turn left/right at the second turning
  • It’s in front of……
  • It’s next to…….
  • I can show you where the post office is
  • I can take you to to the …….

Contoh Percakapan :

Rewar : Excuse me sir, I am not from this town. I’d like to go back to my hotel. Would you mind explaining how to go to Abepura Hotel, please?

Mr. Christ: Sure. Go along this street then take the second turn. Go straight ahead until you find traffic lights. Turn right and go straight ahead,  in a few minutes you’ll see Ramayana mall on your left, go straight ahead again, around 3 minutes you’ll find it on your right.

Rewar : Thank you for the information, sir.

Mr. Christ : You are welcome.

Materi ini tidak hanya menunjukan lokasi tempat umum, jalan, alamat, tetapi juga untuk menjelaskan letak atau lokasi benda seperti: di atas, di bawah, di sebelah, sebelum, sesudah, diantara dan lain – lain (preposition)

Setelah membaca contoh kalimat di atas, kira-kira apa yah yang akan kita bahas?

Well, materi kita kali ini adalah tingkat perbandingan (The Degree of Comparison). Tentu kalian pernah membandingkan, bukan?. Ingin tau penjelasannya.

Definition and function The Degree of Comparison

The degree of comparison atau tingkat perbandingan adalah kata sifat (adjective) atau kata keterangan (adverb) yang dapat mengubah bentuk, sehingga mengalami sedikit pergeseran arti. Fungsi dari tingkat perbandingan digunakan untuk membandingkan apapun termasuk hewan, benda, tumbuhan, orang, fenomena alam, dan lain-lain.

Jenis -Jenis the Degree of Comparison

Ada tiga macam tingkatan dalam materi the degree of comparison, Yaitu :

1. Positive Degree (Tingkat perbandingan sama/biasa)

2. Comparative Degree (Tingkat perbandingan lebih/ter)

3. Superlative Degree (Tingkat perbandingan paling)

1. Positive Degree (Tingkat perbandingan sama/biasa)

Jenis tingkat perbandingan ini adalah bentuk standar adjective dan adverb yang tidak mengalami perubahan apapun, yang digunakan untuk menyatakan sesuatu dalam keadaan sama dengan yang lainnya. Positive degree menggunakan correlative conjuction as……….as.

 Contoh :

  • Adjective : small, tall, handsome, etc….
  • Adverb    : slowly, gently, quickly, etc

2. These mangoes are not as sweet as those. (Mangga-mangga ini tidak semanis mangga-mangga itu).

3. English test this semester is not as difficult as I imagine. (Tes bahasa inggris semester ini tidak sesulit seperti yang saya bayangkan).

 2.Comparative Degree

Comparative degree digunakan untuk membandingkan dua hal, apakah hewan, benda, tumbuhan, orang, fenomena alam, dan lain-lain. Adjective atau adverb yang terdiri dari satu Syllable menggunakan akhiran –er/r, sedangkan yang menggunakan dua suku kata atau lebih menggunakan more.

Perlu dicetak tebal bahwa suku kata yang berakhiran -y, mengalami perubahan yaitu akhiran -y diganti dengan -i dan ditambah -er/r menjadi -ier.

Contoh :

  •  Adjective  satu suku kata : tall-taller, fat-fatter, hard-harder, big-bigger, happy-happier dan
  • Adjective dua atau lebih dari satu suku kata : popular-more popular, famous-more famous
  • Adverb : fast-faster, gently-more gently, slowly-more slowly

3. Superlative Degree

Tingkat perbandingan ini digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa apapun itu, tidak bisa dibandingkan dengan yang lain, karena sudah dinyatakan  paling diantara yang lainnya.

Adjective atau adverb yang terdiri dari satu Syllable menggunakan akhiran –est/st, sedangkan yang menggunakan dua suku kata atau lebih menggunakan most.

Perlu dicetak tebal bahwa suku kata yang berakhiran -y, mengalami perubahan yaitu akhiran -y diganti dengan -i dan ditambah -est/st menjadi -iest.

 Contoh:

 Adjective : cold-coldest, happy-happiest,

Adverb : fast-fastes, fluently-most fluently

 Note :

  • Dengan melihat penjelasan dan contoh di atas, hendaknya materi ini tidak dijadikan contoh untuk membandingkan diri sendiri atau membandingkan apapun  untuk membuat lawan bicara merasa down atau dijadikan acuan yang tidak baik yah, jangan. Tetapi materi ini yang berjudul Tingkat Perbandingan hendaknya digunakan dengan bijak untuk membandingkan apapun, agar lawan bicara (pendengar) lebih cepat mengerti atau memahami makna yang terkandung dalam kalimat perbandingan yang disampaikan.
  • Materi tingkat perbandingan tidak hanya menggunakan simple present tense saja, namun tensis yang lain juga bisa.
